Thekla has recently undergone a successful £1m restoration that will secure her future for at least another 30 years.
From June to September 2019, Thekla was moved to the listed Albion Drydock for extensive repair works. Although Thekla undergoes regular, routine inspection and repair a detailed survey showed that the existing hull is near the end of its life. The result of the project is a brand new steel offset hull welded into place around the whole of the existing hull.
Thekla returned to its usual position in the harbour in early September 2019 when it reopened to the public.
