Thekla's Grim Reaper Banksy Saved

Workmen took blowtorches to our ship today to cut out and remove the artist Banksy’s painting of the Grim Reaper from just above the waterline on the steel hull.

The artist painted the Grim Reaper onto the ship around 15 years ago, but exposure to the elements is causing ongoing deterioration.

Recognising the artwork’s iconic status and to preserve the image we decided to remove it while the boat is in dry dock for general maintenance, which happens only every eight years.

Thekla Refurbishment & Summer Pop-Up

As you may well have heard, Thekla goes into dry dock for scheduled maintenance and refurbishment this summer. We have around four weeks left as we are before the boat sails away. Our very last event will be Pop Confessional on Saturday 21st June.

During the summer we will be operating a pop-up club space in central Bristol. This will be home to Pressure on Thursdays & PopCon on Saturdays, whilst we are away. More information on the pop-up will follow soon!

Information on our relaunch at the end of the Summer will be available closer to the time, but rest assured we have some great live shows and club events already locked in for you!

Fans help to book concerts with Detour at Thekla

Songkick partners with DHP Family to take new platform DETOUR across the UK!

Calling all music fans – Which concerts do you want to bring to your city?

Songkick – the live music and technology company known for its concert and event alert service announced today that it will expand its new fan-funded platform Detour across the UK.

Detour lets fans pledge on the artists they love as a way of expressing their commitment to attend live events. Subsequently, Songkick and local promoters work together to try and make the shows happen.

“At the heart of Detour is a belief that true fans can help their favourite artists come to their city sooner by helping to reduce the risk associated with touring and putting on shows” says Songkick CEO and co-founder Ian Hogarth. “Rather than leaving a comment on Facebook or Twitter, Detour lets fans step up and say – If you come to my city, I’m in.”

Since the launch of Detour in London fans have pledged for over 1000 artists to help acts from all genres of music and comedy come to London. Confirmed gigs include performances for acts as diverse as Zoe Keating, GOAT, Aziz Ansari, Television, Colin Stetson and Desaparecidos.

Songkick are now launching the service nationwide to discover what people want to see and have brought DHP onboard to be part of this. Our Promotions Director, Anton Lockwood says “We’re really excited to be working with one of the most innovative technology companies in the UK. Detour is a way to partner more closely with our audience and help bring them more of the gigs they want.”

Detour is now live in the following cities: Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Nottingham, Manchester,Sheffield.
