Moulettes released their third studio album and their first for Navigator Records ‘Constellations’ on June 2nd. Recorded in studios, churches, tunnels, workshops and bedrooms around Brighton, Lewes and South Wales in the summer of 2013, it is their most complete and ambitious album to date. Few bands are able to call upon such a willing, prestigious and diverse group of guests.

The album features a chamber orchestra that includes performances from legends Arthur Brown and Herbie Flowers (Lou Reed, Bowie) and contemporaries Blaine Harrison (Mystery Jets), The Unthanks, Emma Richardson (Band Of Skulls) and a host of players from Sweden, Germany, Greece, Holland, South Africa, Australia, Scotland and Bosnia. Brighton dub troubadour Faye Houston and dubstep producer Mike Dennis complete a supporting cast that emphasises the band’s incredible ability to blend their custom designed Cellos, Violins, Guitars, Drums, Bassoon, Double bass and synths into an incomparable pop/rock/folk package. Thus ‘Constellations’ crosses varied and expansive musical territory over its ten tracks. As songwriter, cellist and front singer Hannah Miller notes, “People have listened to Moulettes and heard Shostakovich, Miles Davis, Pentangle, Pink Floyd, Bjork and even Skrillex. That is where we’ve all come from…everyone shares in over 80 years of recorded music history”.

Moulettes are a Brighton-based folk-rock band who also incorporate prog, pop and Classical elements to stunningly original effect. They will be releasing their third album ‘Constellations’ in Spring 2014. It will feature contributions from The Unthanks, Arthur Brown, legendary sessioneer Herbie Flowers and Blaine Harrison from Mystery Jets amongst many others.
In the meantime they are touring the UK in the autumn and winter of 2013 to say say farewell – or at least ‘au revoir’ – to their previous, acclaimed collection, The Bear’s Revenge. They will be accompanied on these gigs by their long-time friend and colleague, Wirral-born, Manchester-ensconced, and universally admired, Liz Green. (Expect musical mixing and matching).
“Haunting and beautiful” Sunday Times
“Her enchanting mix of muddy blues-tinged folk songs possess a warmth that gets immediately under your skin” Music Week
Moulettes have been together since the beginning of the century when three members of the band were at school together. Over the intervening years they’ve developed their unique sound, enthralling audiences at the likes of End Of The Road, Cambridge Folk, Cropredy, Latitude and Bestival on the way. They have also supported Mumford & Sons, Seasick Steve, The Levellers, Seth Lakeman and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, impressing all and sundry.
They were nominated in the Best Group category in the BBC’s Alternative BRIT Awards and won the equivalent category in 2012 in the Fatea Awards and the 2013 Spiral Earth Awards.
Step into Moulettes’ universe. You won’t quite have experienced anything like it before.

LIZ GREEN

Since she won Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent competition in 2007 – bagging herself a slot on the Pyramid Stage – Liz has enchanted audiences all over the country and Europe-wide with her charismatic, idiosyncratic reinvention of blues, folk and alt.pop. This she delivers in a voice that belongs to a tragic-comic music hall chanteuse from the 1920s; while accompanying herself on expertly finger-picked guitar, various oddball props and occasional puppetry. As Esquire Magazine put it –“To call Liz Green a one-off talent is something of a drastic under-statement”

Her debut album, O, Devotion, was The Sunday Times’ Album Of The Week and described as – “Haunting and beautiful”. While The Guardian said of her live show “you realise you’re in the presence of someone deeply eccentric and rather magical.”

Unmissable, then…
